Ack!

January 30th, 2010 — 6:27pm

My laptop has been experiencing some difficulties lately. I’m hoping to have things fixed soon so I’ll be back to my sporadic posting! (Although if I hadn’t mentioned anything I’m pretty sure things would have gone unnoticed… Ha!)

Back to my regularly scheduled ebb and flow

January 22nd, 2010 — 12:04pm

As hard as it maybe to believe, I actually do try to be a good blogger.  As a whole, I seem to have difficulty with keeping up appearances it comes to the internet.  I have gone from being just a simple googler (or aj.com-er which is what I used before google became the monster it is today) to a forum junkie, blogger, Facebook member, and twitter-er.  In all of my webiness I seem to only able to keep on top of one or two at a time.  I get to a point each day where I just don’t want to sit at a computer anymore.  I’ll update something on say, Facebook and then possibly tweet something semi-intelligent and then I’m just over it for the day.  Instead of rotating things and concentrating on my blog the next day, I tend to update on Facebook and semi-intellegently tweet something then pack it in for the day.  The ebbs and flows rotate to a different pair of online outlets every few months or so.  All in all I think it comes down to one part laziness, one part short attention span, and three parts not wanting to neglect the kiddos (Just for the record I’m not saying other people who have both an online presence and children neglect their kids for the former, I’m just not personally good at time management in this area).

I would love to be able to juggle all of my onlineiness with ease.  I would like to reconnect with my forum friends, to be there regularly in both a supporting and learning capacity.  I would like to have more than an average of 4.5 posts per month here at my blog.  I have yet to find a happy medium, but I’m far from giving up on figuring out how to make all this work for me.

In this same vein, I have an announcement to make soon regarding another (super exciting!) online presence and the whole time I’ve been working on sorting that out, I’ve been thinking about ways to fit it in without letting anything else slip!

Music Monday (Resumes on a Tuesday…)

December 22nd, 2009 — 11:40am

Yes Dad, I have been neglecting my blog (again…) Well here you go this post is dedicated to you (procrastination and all):

Today I’m going to share five favorite Christmas songs.

Firstly, the weird and wonderful paring of Bing Crosby and David Bowie; Little Drummer Boy:

Another song featuring Mr. Crosby this time paired with the Andrew Sisters; Mele Kalikimaka:

This one is from a from a really fun Disney Christmas movie, Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Share This Day – Josh Kelley:

This one is from my favorite Christmas album. Glenn Miller Christmas.  The whole album makes me think of my mom.  Especially since she enjoys listening to Christmas music practically year round!

This is hands down my most favorite Christmas song!  The incomparable Nat King Cole singing The Christmas Song:

Music Monday

November 20th, 2009 — 9:29pm

This song is special to me because over ten years ago my husband (then boyfriend) made a mix of music for me which included this song.  When ever I hear it I think of the short period of time we dated.

Protection – Massive Attack

Friday Five

November 20th, 2009 — 6:50pm

I am lucky enough to have two amazing brothers.

OK, I admit it, in this regard I haven’t always considered myself lucky.  While growing up, they generally didn’t encourage me to hang around them.  I’m pretty sure they viewed me as an annoyance or as an added responsibility they didn’t care to shoulder.  By the time I was in junior high they had both graduated high school and moved away.  It was much easier to appreciate them from a far.  Not living under the same roof helped immensely toward building relationships with them.  For the first time I was really able to appreciate them (though, I wouldn’t really get to know them better for quite a few years).  As I’ve gotten older I’ve been able to learn what wonderful people they are.  I can now  appreciate what a gift it is to have two older brothers.  I look forward to getting to know them both better. :-)

Five things I love about my brothers:

1. They both have kind smiles + huge hearts (also huge smiles + kind hearts).

2. Both are good people who look out for others and would be there in a heartbeat if someone they loved needed them.

3. They have both brought lovely, beautiful and caring women into our family (their wives).

4. They are both incredibly good with children (definitely a necessity for my oldest brother, he has 7 children of his own to be good for!)

5. They are both talented and intelligent men and either one of them could do and achieve anything they set their mind to.

I really believe that everyone needs a little bit of Ella in their life so today I would like to share one of my favorite Ella Fitzgerald songs.

Black Coffee:

Friday Five (special anniversary edition)

November 13th, 2009 — 9:30am

Today Mikey and I share a special milestone, our 10th wedding anniversary.
Ten years ago today we were in Las Vegas getting ready for an early evening wedding.
My Friday Five this week is all about the love of my life.
5 things I love about my husband:

1. He can always make me laugh. Laughter is very important to me. Over the last ten years he’s frequently kept me in stitches (whether he’s meant to or not).

2. He is one of the smartest people I know. He is constantly amazing me with how brainy he is. Not only is he highly sought after in his company, he is my go-to guy for just about anything requiring smarts. He’s definitely on top of my list for a ‘phone-a-friend.’

3. He is the most understanding and supportive person in my life. I can’t imagine being any more lucky in this regard. I am sooo blessed to have him as my partner in life.

4. He is kind and generous to all those he cares about (our children, our animals, friends and family). He has a big heart and proves over and over again that he isn’t afraid to use it. :-)

5. (I can’t complete this list without saying…) He’s gorgeous. After ten years I still get giddy when I see him.  His smile, his eyes and a warm embrace gets me every time!

Music Monday (Anniversary edition)

November 9th, 2009 — 8:29pm

Since Mikey and I have our 10th anniversary this Friday I thought I’d tie it in with MM.
One of our songs and one that always makes me giggle (both because it makes me think of us and because it’s goofy) is:

Just Can’t Get Enough by Depeche Mode.

Just to prove how funny my kids can be…

November 6th, 2009 — 6:52pm

At dinner tonight, for some reason, Bug decided to outline his adult life. He’s decided that he’s never moving out and doesn’t want to get married. (A year ago he had told me he wanted to get married and have 10 children; this, obviously, is quite the change.) He explained that he no longer wants to get married because when his uncle recently got married (my brother), both he and his soon to be bride looked scared. He said he thinks he’d be too nervous and therefore doesn’t want to go through with marriage at all.
Then he asked me (in all seriousness) if it costs money to ‘rent’ kids. I nearly spat out my spaghetti bolognese. “What?” He asked defensively.
“Do you know what renting means?” I asked back.
“Oh, right… borrow.” He responds.
“I think you mean adopt.” I added to help.
“Right. I want to adopt kids who need a home. So when I’m an adult there’ll be a couple of kids living here too.” He said decisively.
